Change
People often announce that someone has changed with disdain in their voice. Most of the time change is good. Especially if you’ve known someone since the two of you were children. If they didn’t change, there would be a serious problem. A forty-year-old should not have the same mind set as someone in junior high school. Not to mention the cliché but true statement, there can be no progress without change. Obviously if you see a good friend or family member taking a downward spiral, you should address it, but just because they are trying to live their life differently, doesn’t mean that they are doing something wrong. Actually, you should tap them on the shoulder and let them know when you see them making the same mistakes over and over again. Change is usually a healthy and productive part of life. So many people shouldn’t be so eager to stand in the way.
You haven’t changed a bit
I know I don’t look the same
After all these years you’re still nice and fit
Yeah, I know my hair looks wild and untame
You don’t look a day over twenty two
I know I’ve lost my girlish figure
My skin is not as soft and smooth
My hips a little bigger
Do you still hang with Ray?
Oh you just left him a few minutes ago
Over by the basketball courts
Drinking and smoking weed on the low
I see you haven’t changed a bit
You’re the same guy I dated ten years ago
You and all your boys are still tight knit
Hovering the block, pants still hanging low
What brings me to this neck of the woods?
I volunteer at the community center
I work with all the young girls
Hoping to uplift them as their mentor
You still have that sexy smile
I’m sure your still have a way with the ladies
Charming and charismatic
Still fine as Hades
How is you mother?
Glad to hear she’s doing fine
Oh, she’s at the house watching your children
Until their mothers pick them up around nine
Well I’m off to work now
Yeah, I sold out
I work for “The Man” now
No more street clout
I live in the suburbs
I hear crickets at night
Instead of gunshots and sirens
No late night drunken fights
It was good seeing you
You haven’t changed a bit
I know I’m not the same
And I’m just fine with it
