Role Model
When I was about 17 years old, my mother reminded me of something that I, for obvious reasons, had selectively forgotten. When it was time to move on to junior high school, I was selected to take an exam to go to a specialized school. During the written portion of the exam, when asked to write about my role model, I chose my favorite pop artist at the time. The reasons I gave were that I liked her songs and she was a good dancer.
I was totally mortified. At that point in my life I, of course, realized that this was not what they were looking for. (I was also mortified since she told this story in front of a guy I was trying to impress at the time). This is when I decided to ask myself, if I could go back in time, who would I choose as my role model?
The answer I came up with was myself. I decided that I learned and made corrections from own mistakes. With each day that passed I would aspire to be a better person than I was the day before. While this may have held true, it wasn’t enough. If you don’t look to outside sources you won’t learn how to fix those mistakes or even what you are aspiring to be.
This answer came from the naïve attitude that a lot of people in their teens and early twenties have: I may not have all the answers in life but I have all the answers for my life. I felt that no one could tell me what to do or how to be because their story was different from mine. The older I got, the more I realized just how little I knew and how much more I still had to learn.
Today I can proudly list Oprah as one of my many role models. While we may all make jokes about how much money she has, it comes in at the bottom of the list of her accomplishments. There are plenty of wealthy people in the world that are morally bankrupt. Some may even match her fame, but no one has anything positive to say about their character.
Oprah has such a tremendous heart. She makes sure that there is meaning behind her actions. I don’t believe that there has been another talk show host, actor or producer that has had the same impact on society as she has. While others may jump from one business venture to the next looking to pad their pockets, Oprah puts her soul into what she does. She doesn’t do it for personal gain, but rather the enrichment of the lives of others. If I could be one tenth of the woman that she is, I’d be quite proud.

Customer Service Fail
For the second time in a rather short time span, I hired someone to perform a service, and they are dragging the process out. They are not paid by the hour so there is no benefit to them. It would be easier for everyone if the project was finished so that we all can go on to do other things (be it professional or personal). I strive to provide better service to my clients than I have been receiving.
